I am examining the socio-cultural aspects of extreme weather and environmental hazards. I do this by looking at how memory and storytelling help aid in understanding risk, building and maintaining resilient practices, and hazard adaptation in Oklahoma communities. Read my research here.

My student Chase Patton and I are practicing sustainability at the household level by testing different composting methods and measuring which might work best for food waste reduction and urban gardening initiatives Read the press release, look at the project overview, or watch Chase’s award-winning presentation.

Recent graduate Dustin Braden and I investigated urban agriculture initiatives, community activism, and communication and outreach strategies in 2019. We are currently in the beginning stages of expanding the project to include food access maps and visualizations, with the goal of assessing how to best communicate food access (or a lack thereof) in order to move toward a more just system of community food access in Columbus.
