Telling Natural Hazards Stories through Social Media
Using Tiktok for equitable disaster communication and research
Several TikTok videos were carefully examined to investigate their role as a significant form of communication throughout the disaster cycle. Using textual and narrative analysis, I found that TikTok videos provide valuable insights while allowing affected parties to share crucial information and updates during natural hazard events. TikTok's collaborative and participatory structure, as well as its ability to distribute community knowledge, can boost approaches for community adaptation planning while maintaining ethical boundaries. It also helps affected parties connect with their communities, make decisions, and practice resilience outside formal channels.
